Region 1: Exercise 4

Garreau's description of Dixie is a very good and solid match to the empirical data pictured in the map. Despite a few outliers, the map is pretty accurate with Garreau's description as the google search for "Dixie Automotive." The outliers in the map can be caused by several different reasons.
The main theory that came to mind when evaluating is some of the automotive place might be a chain that originated in The South and spread to regions outside of Dixie. I think a better and more efficient to get empirical data on Dixie is to search several keywords besides just "Dixie Automotive." Maybe you could search "Dixie Diner" or "Dixie Grocery". You could use all of those searches to get a better understanding of the Dixie region. Using this google mapping exercise to map out Dixie was extremely helpful to me. I have a difficult time creating visuals with just descriptions. I found myself extremely confused in Garreau's description. However, this activity has truly helped me understand the region of Dixie.
